The second day of the 2008 Clay Court Championships saw the Latin American contingent at the tournament dominate their opponents. The five singles matches played on day 2 of the 2008 Clay Court Championships also led to the demise of top seed, German Tommy Haas.

In the first match of the day Augustin Calleri of Argentina defeated American Vince Spadea. The American had no answer to Calleri’s fluent clay game and went down in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.

Sergio Roitman of Argentina then knocked another American out of the tournament, although John Isner did not go down without a fight, claiming the first set only to lose a tie-break in the second before going down 6-3 in the final set.

It was a Russian who provided the biggest upset of the day, as Igor Konitsyn defeated number two seed, Germany’s Tommy Haas in a hard fought three set match. Haas won the first 7-5, but was unable to contain Konitsyn in the second and third sets, losing both 6-4 to earn an early exit from the tournament.

Another German player was knocked out of the 2008 Clay Court Championships during the second day of play, this time by number three seed, American Mardy Fish. Fish made short work of Rainer Scheuttler, overcoming early resistance to move into the next round with a 7-5, 6-3 win.
