Blake through to 2008 Clay Court Championships Quarterfinals

Texan teenager Ryan Harrison was subjected to a stern lesson in tennis from his adversary James Blake in the 2008 Clay Court Championships quarterfinals yesterday. The 15 year old teenager was blasted off the court 6-3, 6-2 by the number one seed, and could even take some pride in the fact that Blake didn’t finish the match with a clean sheet.

While Blake’s guile and experience were always going to be too much for the inexperienced Harrison, it was ultimately his own serve that proved his undoing. Harrison struggled to contain himself, overcooking a high percentage of his first serves he tried to force a way into the match.

In the day’s other matches Chilean Nicolas Massu was knocked out of the tournament 7-6, 6-2 by Brazilian Marcos Daniel. Paul Capdeville continued the poor run of form for Chilean players, losing 6-2, 6-1 to Argentinean 5th seed Augustin Calleri. Sergio Roitman finished a good day for Argentinean tennis by knocking Russian Igor Kunitsyn out of the tournament 6-3, 7-6.

Mardy Fish and Wayne Odesnik complete the line up for the 2008 Clay Court Championship quarterfinals, with the eventual winner expected to pocket $68,000 in prize money.
